Sham 69
Quite simply one of THE top punk bands (led then by the irrepressible Jimmy Pursey). Sham were a prime musical and lyrical influence on Oi! and street punk since birthing in Hersham in 1976. But maybe more of a rowdy bar band, slightly gritty with r'n'b and fully tarmacadamed with beer-swilling glass-clinking footie choruses!
From early classic three-chorders I Don't Wanna, Ulster and Red London to Hurry Up Harry (legendary kick-out tune!), Hersham Boys, Angels With Dirty Faces and If The Kids Are United.
Cited as influences by US hardcore bands Black Flag, Fugazi and Henry Rollins, and still led by founder member Dave Parsons with new frontman and genuine Eastender Tim V, Sham 69 are still very much a force to be reckoned with!!
Ed Tudor Pole
Ed Tudor Pole briefly joined the Sex Pistols as a replacement for Johnny Rotten before fronting his own band Ed TenPole Tudor, with whom he had hits with 'Who killed Bambi?', '3 Bells in a Row', 'Swords of 1000 Men', 'Wunderbar' and 'Throwing my baby out with the Bath Water'. Probably best known for his appearances in 'The Crystal Maze' and on Top of The Pops, Ed has appeared in numerous films and plays, including The Rocky Horror Show, The Great Rock and Roll Swindle with The Sex Pistols, White Hunter, Black Heart with Clint Eastwood and more recently as Mr. Borgin in Harry Potter II.
