music review: MUSIC REVIEW-Stigmata |
Stigmata - The Wounds That Never Heal l The seminal new york hardcore/metalcore band, Stigmata, have just celebrated their 20th anniversary and marked it with this reissue of two of their hard to find albums. Hymns For an Unknown God from 1994 and Do Unto Others from 1998 are released on one cd entitled The Wounds That Never Heal. There is also one bonus live track, Can't Bring me Down. The first of the two albums is a heavier more metal affair, imagine a NYHC version of Pantera and that's pretty much what its like. The second album, which I personally prefer, is in a more hardcore vein, Cro-Mags style, and is faster and vocally more mature. The albums have not been remastered but this is a good package with great artwork and lyrics booklet and is well presented. Members from Stigmata went on to play in bands such as Shadows Fall and Murderer's Row. This release on I scream Records is good value for money and if you like bands such as as Madball and Hatebreed then you'll enjoy this.
